MAAD Artist is entering a new chapter. In 2027, we will open the doors to our first permanent creative space in Los Angeles, creating a home for the work we have been building and a foundation for what comes next.

Through ColorBloc Magazine, we have spent years documenting art, fashion, music and culture, sharing the stories of emerging and established creatives while building relationships with artists and communities across the country and beyond. That work became the foundation for MAAD Artist, a nonprofit organization established in 2026 to expand our commitment to artists beyond storytelling and into exhibitions, programming, resources and opportunities for creative development.

In a relatively short time, MAAD Artist has already begun putting that mission into practice. Through two exhibitions, new creative partnerships and our growing involvement in projects like The Mental Plug podcast, we have started exploring what it means to support artists through different forms of expression and engagement. These early experiences have helped shape our vision for the organization and reinforced the importance of creating more opportunities for artists to share their work and connect with audiences. Our new space, MAAD, will serve as the headquarters of MAAD Artist, bringing together a gallery and creative studio where exhibitions, editorial productions, photography and collaborations can take shape. It will also provide a shared creative home for ColorBloc Magazine, allowing the work of both organizations to exist within a physical environment built around art, storytelling and community.

The gallery will host rotating exhibitions, intimate programming and opportunities to discover and collect work from emerging and independent artists. Beyond exhibitions, the space will support the development of future projects, creative partnerships and initiatives that reflect the mission of MAAD Artist. We also look forward to introducing programming that encourages conversation, cultural exchange and deeper engagement with the artists and work being presented.

Los Angeles has always been home. Establishing MAAD here carries a significance that extends beyond opening a gallery. Los Angeles has a rich history of Black artistic expression, cultural movements and independent creative communities, and we see this space as an opportunity to contribute to that ongoing legacy. At a time when Black owned galleries and independent exhibition spaces are continuing to establish their presence, we are excited to be part of a growing community creating new opportunities for artists and audiences. Our roots are here, and building something that can contribute to the city's creative future makes this chapter especially meaningful.

For MAAD Artist, this is an important beginning. For ColorBloc Magazine, it is another chapter in a much longer story. Representing years of creative relationships, shared experiences and a belief in the importance of making room for artists and their work. Having a permanent space gives us the opportunity to bring those efforts together and continue building something that can grow with the communities we serve.

Doors open in 2027!
