As usual, the fashion event of the year will take place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday in May 1st, 2023. Next year's theme will honor the life and legacy of fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld.
Curated by the Institute's head curator Andrew Bolton. The "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty" exhibition will be on display from May 5 through July 16, 2023. The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute will highlight "the designer's stylistic vocabulary as it was expressed in through lines—aesthetic themes that appear time and again—in his fashions from the 1950s to his final collection in 2019." Alongside original Lagerfeld sketches, visitors can expect around 150 couture pieces to be on display.
Originally, the theme was scheduled for Met Gala 2022 however the event was postponed due to COVID-19. The invite-only charity benefit, costs arounds $30,000 a head to attend, and is a primary source of funding for the Metropolitan Museum raising $15 million in 2019, according to the New York Times. Items on display for next year will include pieces and designs from Lagerfeld's time as creative director of Fendi, Chloé, Chanel, Balmain and Patou as well as designs from his own label.
