NEXT GENERATION
Bringing a fresh perspective on life, the next generation has something to say.

It isn’t surprising that upcoming artist BRS KASH has made his mark in the music industry and smash hit the Gen Z crowd. He embodies what it means to be yourself and stand out amongst others with pride, individuality, and charisma. He musically defines overcoming adversity that when you have a vision for your future, nothing will halt it from happening. With his southern flair and tenacity to grow through the effects of the pandemic he’s at the top of his career and proves that if you have a goal in mind and your heart is in it, the possibilities are limitless.

From my perspective, the future of storytelling and rap...I mean, it looks bright. Every time it's something new like I said, everybody got different stories to tell, you know what I'm saying. It’s a new generation so with the new generation, you know, it's going to be new things to come along.

Often, we believe we need a degree for reassurance, 1000 hours of training, or a big face to say that we are talented, but Courtney Carson's story is one that can inspire all artists. Courtney calls his style unconventional but I would call it resourceful. Jamaican native Courtney was born in Manhattan, raised in Brooklyn, and in his older years in North Carolina where he spent a great majority of his life.

"I want people to see me and learn to be themselves and to vibe to the highest degree. My friend Mr. Benjamin from Atlanta told me not to do anything unless it’s from the heart. That has stuck with me to this day and it’s what made me write “On The Road.” That’s always with me and is what I want to leave behind."

Come to My Garden

"Come to My Garden" is a short series on Morgen's conceptualization

of Minnie Riperton's album, Come to My Garden. The imagery of each song on this album, motivated me to engulf the main figure into various scenic backgrounds. The series is her literal interpretation of black women as flowers & how beautiful growth can be.

Morgan Newton is a visual artist and Howard Alumna from Houston, Texas. Growing up as a black woman in the South, she found it difficult to be self-assured. Finding herself performing for others instead of embracing her authentic self.

Through her art, she began sharing pieces of who she was on canvas, encourage growth, rather than fear it. Documenting this growth within each work by portraying vulnerability through creation.

Expressing vulnerability through figures that represent her.
